It’s hard to determine which is more effective at detecting malware. Both suites scored well in our tests. However, we give the edge to Kaspersky for its outstanding false-positive rates and its more refined sense of whether something is malware or not. In the most recent round of AV-Comparatives’ testing, for instance, it spotted 99.6% of the malware tested, and only raised four false positives. Bitdefender caught 99.2% and raised 12 false positives in the September/October and November/December 2021 tests.
Kaspersky also has more customizable settings than Bitdefender particularly in the firewall section, where you can alter the network profile and personalize connection rules. You can also set exceptions for specific applications, block ports and much more. Kaspersky provides a wider range of customization options than Bitdefender that has just a few sliders.
Both suites are easy to install, and both have simple interfaces. Both suites offer multiple ways to check your PC for malware. You can use a quick scan to identify typical areas where malware could be found, or a full system scan that seeks threats in every program and file on your computer.
Both suites have decent support for customers and are quick to respond to issues. The only difference is that Kaspersky has an online community forum where users can assist each other with issues, whereas Bitdefender’s support team is available via phone and email. This little detail shows how Bitdefender takes care of their customers.
